Growth and Anatomical Adaptations in Response to Salinity Stress in Cucurbita moschata Duchesne ‘Butternut’ (Cucurbitaceae)

چکیده
Pumpkin or squash is an economically important crop that moderately sensitive to salinity but how its growth affected by soil poorly understood. Salinity stress on physiological and anatomical traits of Cucurbita moschata ‘Butternut’ was investigated under hydroponic culture using Hoagland’s solution with various NaCl concentrations (0, 25, 50, 75, 100, 150 mM) for four weeks. The results showed pumpkin characters decreased after cultured in concentrations. Leaf number, leaf width, length, root stem height, diameter, green intensity terms SPAD units, chlorophyll fluorescence (Fv’/Fm’, Fv/Fm), total chlorophyll, a b contents significantly (p < 0.05) impacted fiber layer thickness, vascular bundle size vessel diameter treated plants did not affect cuticle thickness. Physiological correlated gradients, except fluorescence, both light dark condition. Results provide significant data improve the understanding adaptation mechanisms tolerant cultivars

متن کاملGrowth and Chemical Composition of Pistachio Seedling Rootstock in Response to Exogenous Polyamines under Salinity Stress
In order to evaluate responses of a pistachio seedling rootstock (Pistacia vera L. cv. Ghazvini) to NaCl induced salinity stress and potential protective role of exogenous spermine and spermidine on NaCl induced salinity stress, a greenhouse experiment was conducted during growing season of 2009. The NaCl treatments, involving 800, 1600, and 3200 mg NaCl per Kg of soil for 90 days, suppressed g...

متن کاملMorphological, Thermal and Physicochemical Properties of Starches from Squash (Cucurbita maxima) and Pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata)
The properties of starches isolated from two squash cultivars (Cucurbita maxima) were studied and compared with those of two pumpkin cultivars (Cucurbita moschata) and one normal potato cultivar. The amylose content of pumpkin and squash starches ranged from 16.18% to 21.29%. The pumpkin and squash starches appeared as a mixture of spherical, polyhedral and dome shaped granules. The pumpkin and...
